     Ms. Spear completed her studies at Hayes School of Music, Appalachian State University, earning her Bachelor of Music in Music Performance, Flute in 2015, and her Bachelor of Music in Music Education, K-12 in 2016. She is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society. Ms. Spear has been involved with music for much of her life, starting piano lessons at the age of five and picking up the flute at age twelve. She has been active in teaching both privately and publicly, as she has worked in individual and group lesson settings, masterclass settings, and in the public school classroom through internships.

     

     During her undergraduate career, she was involved with the North Carolina Music Educator's Association as the President of the Collegiate sector, working with her team to bring collegiate students from across the state together to establish connections within the music education program community, as well as to provide engaging and innovative sessions to members at the 2014 NCMEA Annual Convention.
 

     In addition to teaching, Ms. Spear is passionate about music performance. She has played in many chamber ensembles and has experience with both orchestral and wind ensemble music, as well as experience in the musical and opera pit. She has presented solo recitals and was the winner of the 2015 Appalachian Wind Ensemble Concerto competition, performing with the ensemble as the featured soloist. Apart from classical music, she also performed regularly with a traditional Irish music group in Boone, NC. Being back in Raleigh, Ms. Spear looks forward to continuing performing alongside teaching. She currently is a member of the Raleigh Civic Symphony and enjoys her time as a freelance flutist.

     Ms .Spear completed a
dditional studies at the University of Cork College of Music (traditional Irish music, summer program through HSoM) and IES Abroad Vienna (studied music performance, music history, and German language while living in Vienna, Austria for four months.) She would like to thank her mentors, teachers, and family for their support in promoting her growth as a musician and educator.
